State Notaray
Texas State Notary
Hundreds of people become notaries public in Texas each year. Applicants start with the state’s notary public application form — available from the Texas Secretary of State’s office, insurance and surety companies or from your local county clerk’s office.
To be eligible, prospective notaries must be at least 18 years old and a Texas resident with a clear criminal record. Applicants with felony convictions or crimes deemed to involve “moral turpitude” are subject to dismissal.
Applicants must pay a $21 application fee, which covers their four-year term. Notaries can renew their commissions before their term expires. On top of the application fee, notaries must also file with the state a $10,000 notary public bond.
The notary public bond will come with a modest premium fee to be paid by the applicant.
